You can be a part of this dispersal program by buying a piglet, or maybe two or more, and together we can touch lives and families, especially the children, as a result. In total, we need 124 more piglets to cover each dumpsite family. The dumpsite ministry has been helping poor children with schooling, and their families, at the dump in Lapu-Lapu City for five years. Now, the good Lord has opened the door to start a livelihood project to help more families who live at the dumpsite. Sister Ching Co saw our work and has given us a hand so that we can start the project described below (For more information - and for handmade crafts from the Lapu Lapu dumpsite cottage industry - read Sue Pengelly's account of her visit to Robert and Sarah's ministry in 2005).

Dumpsite Ministry Piglet Dispersal Program
We disperse two piglets to the poor family, as a way of helping them help themselves. The family will take care of the pigs and once they bear other piglets, they will give back to us two piglets, and they will own the mother pig and the rest of the piglet litter. Then, we will disperse again the piglets to another family. We also teach the family with the technology to make the project odorless and waterless with a natural farming method.
The livelihood project is now more than a year old and is helping 11 families at the dumpsite so far. At the beginning of the project, there was a time of learning and guidance to be completed for the families who would receive the livelihood project. In reality I wanted to see first that this would be effective and would work well to help the poor families. At this time, I can say its a good program and is helping the poor.
Dumpsite children are being helped by coming to our school, that is a way one day that the cycle of poverty will be curbed, or maybe it might help to bring their families out from the shanties they live in, so they can live in a clean healthy environment. This livelihood project is now another way that each family can help their children to have food and pay some cost for the education of their children. It is always an obligation of the parents to help thier children. Our role is to support and encourage. May of 2004 in our survey, there were 150 families who live at the dumpsite. Our goal and prayer is that each of these families can be helped with this piglet dispersal program.
I want to tell you that I am very much excited. Our investment will continue to help the poor. It will double every year because the families will return two piglets, then we give the surplus out to other poor families. Please, come and see the project and visit the work.
Thank you and God bless,
Robert Cuenca
